“Qabbet Ramallah" Chest Panel Embroidery Pattern
This downloadable tatreez pattern is inspired by a photograph of a woman from Ramallah, standing in front of her house, circa 1920. She is dressed in a traditional white everyday dress - thobe , from Ramallah, featuring a unique chest panel. The image is part of the Eric Matson Photographic Collection.
To recreate this piece, we meticulously studied the photograph and carefully redrew all the patterns. By referencing embroidery pieces from the same period, we reconstructed the chest panel design with historical accuracy.
Since the original image is in black and white, the exact colors could not be determined. However, it appears that light colors were used alongside red, the dominant embroidery color in Ramallah. To establish an accurate color scheme, we referenced a piece from the Widad Kawar Collection, which features similar embroidery motifs from the same era.
With the downloadable pattern, we also include the names of the patterns used in the chest panel, transliterated from Arabic into English. These include motifs such as the moon with feathers, carnations, the arch, and the key of Hebron, among others.
This pattern is in A3-sized.
