The Cypress Tree Motif of the Sukhne Area in Syria

$0.00

This four-page booklet contains three Cypress tree motifs inspired by the richly embroidered coats, dresses, and skirts on black fabric from the Sukhne area. The Sukhne garments are characterized by intricate geometric patterns, including the palm tree, the Cypress tree, the suns, and flowers.

Fully embroidered in silk yarns cross-stitch, these designs are highly decorative and stitched on black habar fabric, a silk and cotton blend. Patterns were sometimes stitched freely without waste canvas, creating dynamic, rotated designs. The three Cypress trees in this booklet are meticulously redrawn from original Sukhne coats.

The suns in these coats are very big, and the cross-stitch embroidery of these is rotated 45 degrees.
